Parents Thankful for Bond Between Son and RBT

RBT and Client

We recently received the following unsolicited letter from a parent explaining the bond that has developed between her son and a Registered Behavior Technician from ABA Centers of America.

Dear ABA Centers of America Team,

I want to take a moment to recognize our Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Shelbi G. Recently, our son Liam received an autism diagnosis, which was challenging news for our family. My wife Shannon immediately went to work and started researching various treatment plans and locations based on the diagnosis. Shannon was on the phone researching locations all day and night. We found and toured the ABA Centers of America center in Salem, New Hampshire, and instantly knew it would be an excellent fit for Liam.

On Liam’s first day, Shelbi noticed that Shannon seemed nervous about dropping Liam off. She stepped up immediately to calm Shannon’s nerves. Shelbi did not hesitate to make both Shannon and Liam feel comfortable. She officially became Liam’s RBT that day, and their fantastic relationship began.

Three months have passed, and we are beyond happy with Shelbi being assigned as Liam’s full-time RBT. Watching the amount of joy Liam has when he sees Shelbi makes this extremely stressful time in our lives so much easier. Our visits first started with Liam only wanting to give Shelbi goodbye high-fives. Now, he has progressed to giving Shelbi a hug every time we leave.

Shelbi’s presence can even be felt when we’re not at the center. Liam usually heads straight to the swing in the center’s playspace immediately after being dropped off and makes sure to squeeze in some more swing time again right before he gets picked up. It is a great way to start and finish his day. Shelbi knows that Liam loves his time on the swing and also that he loves to go camping. She took the time to research and recommend a small cloth swing we could get that was similar to the one in the center. The swing can be tied to the trees at our campsite, and Liam absolutely loves it.

Shelbi’s kindness extends beyond Liam to our entire family. During home visits, our two-year-old daughter Reagan can be very nosy during Liam’s sessions. Shelbi allows Reagan to join them during the sessions and is excellent with her. The combined play is highly beneficial for Liam.

This time in our lives has been very stressful, but having Shelbi as Liam’s RBT has certainly been a welcome relief. We’re happy to be able to send Liam to a place he loves.

We have found the perfect place to guide our son and family through this autism journey, and we attribute that much to the care and compassion of Shelbi. Where we once were frustrated, we are now very excited about what the future holds for our family.

Respectfully,

Ryan and Shannon M.
